Hurricane Otto hits Costa Rica

In late November, this year, hurricane Otto struck the Atlantic coast and Northern plains of Costa Rica, which is one the least developed areas of the country.  The hurricane season in this area usually starts in June and ends somewhere in December. Otto, which is the largest forming hurricane ever recorded in this region, struck several days in this period which left a devastated effect on many people in Costa Rica. More than 1600 houses were damaged due to the flooding which caused entire families to have lost their homes. Parents lost their livelihoods, children are in need of pastoral care and many communities are damaged.

Support
The Salvation Army aims to support 18 different communities in Costa Rica which consists of more than 1500 people. All families will have the opportunity to receive pastoral care. They will be provided with food, water and basic sanitary items. The Salvation Army will also provide shelter for people who have lost their home.
